Armed suspect shot

On the news tonight -
1. Armed suspect is shot and killed by police after car chase (see above).
2. Man in car shot in the head, another in the shoulder.. in drive-by shooting.
3. An assistant district attorney shoots his mother, wife and 3 kids.. THEN shoots himself. Now why didn't he just shoot himself first..?
